Firiplaka is what most people picture when they hear “Milos beach”: fine pale sand, water in three shades of blue, and a wall of crimson, ochre and white volcanic cliff that frames the swim like a stage set. South coast, a few kilometres east of Tsigrado, with a road right down to the sand — the easiest of the dramatic Milos beaches to reach with a normal car.
The setting
The cliffs at Firiplaka rise close to 100 metres above the sand and are carved into vertical curtains by erosion. A massive rock spire — the locals call it the Petra — splits the beach near the western end and creates a small protected swimming bay behind it. Colour intensity peaks in late afternoon, when the sand reflects orange light back onto the cliffs.
What to do
- Walk the whole length. 350 m of sand. The sand is the cleanest on Milos — fine, pale, almost no pebbles.
- Climb the Petra. A short scramble takes you to a flat top with a sweeping view of the entire bay.
- Snorkel both ends. Eastern end has better marine life — bream, damselfish, occasional moray under a ledge.
- Sunset and a cold drink at Yialos beach bar. On-site cantina with a wood deck and good cocktails.
How to get there from Triovasalos
Eighteen minutes south. Drive towards Zefyria, then south-west on the road towards Provatas, then follow signs for Firiplaka. Final 800 m is dirt but well-graded — any rental car handles it. Large free car park 100 m from the sand. KTEL buses from Adamas serve Firiplaka three times a day in summer.
Best time to visit
Late morning to late afternoon. The cliffs cast deep shade onto the western half late afternoon — bring lighter clothes if you stay until sunset. May through October. Water is consistently calm because the bay faces south and is tucked under cliffs that block the north wind.
Practical tips
- Loungers + umbrellas €25 per set; the eastern third is free.
- One small taverna/bar on the sand — drinks, sandwiches, salads.
- Cash recommended — cantina may not accept cards on busy days.
- Watch the cliff line — small pebble drops are normal. Don’t set up directly under the highest sections.
- Phone signal patchy at the western end.
From Navis, the easy version
From Triovasalos, Firiplaka is the photo-perfect swim that requires zero hiking and zero boat. Twenty minutes to the water. The Navis Apartement is closer (18 min) than the Studio in Zefyria (22 min).
Η Φυριπλάκα είναι ό,τι φαντάζονται οι περισσότεροι όταν ακούν «παραλία στη Μήλο»: ψιλή ανοιχτή άμμος, νερό σε τρεις αποχρώσεις του μπλε, και ένα τοίχος από πορφυρούς, ώχρα και λευκούς ηφαιστειακούς βράχους που πλαισιώνει την κολύμβηση σαν σκηνικό θεάτρου. Νότια ακτή, λίγα χιλιόμετρα ανατολικά του Τσιγκράδου, με δρόμο μέχρι την άμμο — η πιο εύκολη από τις εντυπωσιακές παραλίες της Μήλου.
Το σκηνικό
Οι βράχοι υψώνονται σχεδόν 100 μ. πάνω από την άμμο, σκαλισμένοι σε κατακόρυφες κουρτίνες από τη διάβρωση. Μια τεράστια πέτρινη ακίδα — οι ντόπιοι τη λένε Πέτρα — χωρίζει την παραλία κοντά στο δυτικό άκρο και δημιουργεί μικρό προστατευμένο κολπίσκο. Η ένταση των χρωμάτων κορυφώνεται αργά το απόγευμα.
Τι να κάνετε
- Περπατήστε όλο το μήκος. 350 μ. άμμος. Η πιο καθαρή της Μήλου — ψιλή, ανοιχτή, σχεδόν χωρίς βότσαλα.
- Ανεβείτε στην Πέτρα. Σύντομη αναρρίχηση οδηγεί σε επίπεδη κορυφή με πανοραμική θέα.
- Snorkelling στα δύο άκρα. Ανατολικό άκρο καλύτερη υποθαλάσσια ζωή.
- Ηλιοβασίλεμα με ποτό στο Yialos. Καντίνα με ξύλινο deck και καλά κοκτέιλ.
Πώς να φτάσετε από τον Τριοβάσαλο
Δεκαοκτώ λεπτά νότια. Οδηγήστε προς Ζεφυρία, μετά νοτιοδυτικά προς Προβατά, και ακολουθήστε σήμανση για Φυριπλάκα. Τα τελευταία 800 μ. είναι χωμάτινα αλλά καλοδιαμορφωμένα. Μεγάλο δωρεάν πάρκινγκ 100 μ. από την άμμο. ΚΤΕΛ από Αδάμαντα τρεις φορές την ημέρα.
Καλύτερη ώρα επίσκεψης
Από αργά το πρωί έως αργά το απόγευμα. Οι βράχοι ρίχνουν σκιά στο δυτικό μισό αργά το απόγευμα. Μάιο με Οκτώβριο. Το νερό είναι σταθερά ήρεμο — νότιος κόλπος, προστατευμένος από μελτέμι.
Πρακτικές συμβουλές
- Ξαπλώστρες με ομπρέλες €25 το σετ· το ανατολικό τρίτο είναι ελεύθερο.
- Μία μικρή ταβέρνα/μπαρ — ποτά, σάντουιτς, σαλάτες.
- Πάρτε μετρητά — η καντίνα μπορεί να μην δέχεται κάρτες σε γεμάτες μέρες.
- Προσοχή στους βράχους — μη στρώνετε ακριβώς κάτω από τα ψηλότερα τμήματα.
- Σήμα κινητού περιορισμένο στο δυτικό άκρο.
Από τη Navis, η εύκολη εκδοχή
Από Τριοβάσαλο, η Φυριπλάκα είναι η φωτογραφική κολύμβηση χωρίς πεζοπορία ή βάρκα. Είκοσι λεπτά στο νερό. Το Navis Apartement είναι πιο κοντά (18 λεπτά) από το Studio στη Ζεφυρία (22 λεπτά).
